Buvette | French Restaurant

LOCATION
WEST VILLAGE, NYC

IMG_9000

In 2009 my family and I traveled to London for the first time to visit relatives. One weekend we decided to take the Eurostar train to Paris as we've only heard amazing things about it. On the train we experienced the best service and best food I've ever had in my life. Only two months ago I discover what we ate (which was killing me for years). It was Brandade,  an emulsion of salted cod fish, olive oil and whipped potatoes. I've been annoying the world and google with questions about it and found out that one of NYC's best French Restaurants was serving this delight. A few days ago I took my husband for brunch as a birthday surprise because if you know us, you know we love anything French-

Buvette, located on 42 Grove St, New York, NY 10014 is one of two restaurants owned by Jody Williams. The other location is in Paris (of course). This NYC gem is one of my favorite places to visit in the West Village for rustic french food. The best seat in the house is at the marble bar. You get to interact with the serveurs and see all that goes on behind the bar. Just to give you a brief description of all that we had.. we ordered Brandade as a starter and sipped on Sancerre wine. Saumon Fume; which was smoked salmon with crème fraîche & capers. CR'Q Forestier which was Roasted mushrooms, gruyère & herbs de provence with an egg on top. & for dessert we had the Apple Tarte tatin.

Chili Chicken Mac-and-Cheese

Today my recipe was featured on Martha Stewart's intsagram page (see below) and I got bombarded by questions about the recipe. The photo was featured as the winner of the #JustOnePot contest. I was so excited after finding out the news because I'm a huge fan of Martha and as the winner I will get a chance to meet her at the launch of her new cookbook, One Pot.

I never gotten the opportunity to post this recipe on here and thought now would probably be a good time. This is such a delicious recipe and very different from your ordinary mac-and-cheese. Hope you guys like it.

Total Time: 40 min
Prep: 25 min
Cook: 15 min
4 servings

Ingredients

Kosher salt
12 ounces elbow macaroni
1 1/4 cups 2% milk
2 cups shredded Mexican cheese blend (8 ounces)
2 cups shredded rotisserie chicken breast (skin removed)
3 tablespoons unsalted butter
1 bunch scallions, chopped
2 teaspoons chili powder
Freshly ground pepper
1 cup home-made pico de gallo
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
3 cups low-sodium chicken broth

Directions
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the pasta and cook as the label directs. Drain, rinse under cold water and return to the pot. Toss with 1/4 cup milk. Top with the cheese and chicken (do not stir).

Meanwhile, melt 1 tablespoon butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the scallions, chili powder, 1 teaspoon salt and pepper. Cook, stirring, 2 minutes. Add half of the pico de gallo. Cook, stirring, until the scallions soften, 2 to 3 minutes.

Reduce the heat to medium. Add the remaining 2 tablespoons butter and melt. Sprinkle in the flour; cook, stirring, until a paste forms, about 1 minute. Gradually stir in the broth and the remaining 1 cup milk. Bring to a simmer; cook, stirring occasionally, until thick enough to coat the back of a spoon, about 6 minutes.

Add the sauce to the pot with the pasta. Cook over medium heat, stirring, until the cheese melts, about 3 minutes; season with salt and pepper. Top with the remaining 1/2 cup pico de gallo.

Please note: there are many ways of making this recipe. Make it to your liking. If making for kids  only add 1 teaspoon of chili powder.

Hyatt Regency Recap

Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay, MD

We're all entitled to a little R&R (Rest and relaxation). Especially when you're a workaholic who has two full time jobs (blogging + being a mom) and don't really want to travel far. I mean.. Maryland is only about 5 hours away from New York City (driving). My family and I are used to taking 17 hour flights to Bangladesh and 7 hour flights to London, so, 5 hours to paradise isn't too bad.

Black On Black

IMG_8812-2

I hope all of you guys had an amazing Labor Day Weekend! I know many of you have been waiting for my Hyatt recap & I'm so so sorry for taking this long to post it. There's a ton of photos and I'm trying to create a little video as well. But in the mean time... Hello September!! I visited Beacon NY for the first time during the weekend. It was such a nice little town I loved it. We arrived pretty late and most shops were closed (Sunday close early). We found a cute little restaurant which was the only place opened at 7pm, DogWood. We will be going back and I'll share more photos of the place.
